The Brighton Cultural Arts Commission (BCAC) is a 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to increase awareness and promote the cultural and scientific opportunities in our community. BCAC serves in an advisory capacity to the Brighton City Council. Members serve three-year terms on the commission and represent various cultural organizations and have varied interests in the arts. Representatives from the 27J School District and Brighton City Council also serve on the commission. City of Brighton staff provide administrative support.

Grant Funding
Each year BCAC submits an annual grant request to the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) through the Adams County Cultural Council. These grant funds are used for various types of programming within the city. Since 1997, over $500,000 of SCFD funding has been used to bring cultural entertainment and programs as well as innovative science-related programs such as Eco-Fair to our community. Several public art pieces have been placed throughout Brighton. Those have been partially funded through SCFD, BCAC, and the City of Brighton.

Cultural Programs
BCAC is a catalyst for cultural programs. Members serve on various committees. They sponsor such popular programs as Artists’ Salons and ARTfest Art Shows. Additionally, through a collaborative effort, BCAC and the City of Brighton maintain the Brighton Arts & Culture website.

The City of Brighton and Brighton Cultural Arts Commission (BCAC) is currently requesting proposals in an open competition for an artist to incorporate art in downtown Brighton. The deadline for proposals is Dec. 15 with installation to begin Dec. 1, 2016.  Details of the call for entry includes:

Project Description
Outdoor art, showing a kinetic, interactive free-form monumental sculpture(s) with elements using wind, movement, light and/or sound. The scale of the kinetic sculpture should be large enough to be viewed from Highway 85 or by pedestrians walking along 1st Avenue and Strong Street.
